Good news for power supply
A US$100,000,000 wind farm has opened in Juancho, Pedernales in the south west of the country, producing electricity for the region. The two phase development will eventually produce 83 megawatts of power.
It is expected that this will bring new development to one of the most beautiful but as yet underdeveloped regions of the country and is also good news for environmentalists.
West Indies Real Estate is a leader in the encouragement of eco-friendly development and has land suitable for bio fuels. We only list a small proportion of this on our website, so please contact us for futher details.

According to French Ambassador, Roland Dubertrand, Dominican exports to Europe increased 21% in 2010, as a result of the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) signed in 2008.
Dubertrand was speaking at the Sustainable Workshop organized by the Dominican-French Chamber of Commerce (CCDF) last month. Trade between the DR and France was around EUR140 million, of which around EUR80 million accounted for exports from France and EUR60 million from the DR to France, as reported in El Dia.
Agricultural produce accounts for a large percentage of exports. We have just a small selection of farms and parcels of land featured on our website, but many more available. Please contact us with your requirements and we will be sure to find what you are looking for.

and it could be good for your health....
The Dominican Republic produces some of the world's best coffee.
Now, a major scientific study just published in the United States says that men who drink a lot of coffee are at lower risk of getting prostate cancer. Men who drank six or more cups of coffee had a 60% less chance of developing the most deadly type of prostate cancer and a 20% less chance of contracting any other type of prostate cancer. The study comes from the School of Public Health at Harvard University. Furthermore, drinking from one to three cups of coffee a day appears to reduce by a third the danger of getting the most deadly type of prostate cancer.
Lorelei Mucci, the Harvard professor who led the study said that "few studies have researched in detail the relationship between coffee consumption and the risk of deadly prostate cancer". Her team studied 47,911 men from the United States. Of these subjects, 5,035 developed cancer of which 642 were fatal. Since the effects on cancer risks were the same for coffee with caffeine and for de-caffeinated coffee, the study suggests that the benefits come from the anti-oxidants and the anti-inflammatory elements in coffee.
West Indies Real Estate has a great range of farms, including those producing coffee, many of which are not listed on the website. Please contact us for more details.

As mentioned some time ago on the West Indies Real Estate blog, The National Geological Service (SNG) - a dependency of the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development -has now begun its operations.
The SNG was created thanks to funding from the European Union. Deputy Pelegrin Castillo, president of the Chamber of Deputies Permanent Commission on Energy and Mines and a key supporter of the SNG, outlined the new department's role. In an interview, he told Listin Diario that the SNG will be useful for the mining sector, in the construction of infrastructure, hydraulic resources, identification of seismic risks and disaster prevention, urban and rural planning and for the country's scientific-technological development. The first director is Santiago Munoz.
One of West Indies Real Estate's areas of expertise is land for bio-fuels - contact us for further details.
